A man went to an insurance office to have his life insured. The manager of the office asked him how old his parents were when they died.
"Mother had a bad heart and died at the age of thirty. Father died of tuberculosis when he was thirty-five."
"I am very sorry," said the manager, "We cannot insure your life as your parents were not healthy."
As the man was leaving the office, depressed, he met a clerk who had overheard the conversation.
"You must not be so frank and tell the truth," said the clerk, "no office will insure yoy if you speak like that. Use your imagination a little."
The man went to another office and was shown into the manager's room.
"Well, young man, how old were your parents when they died ? "
"Mother was ninety-three, and she died from a fall off her bicycle. Father was ninety-eight and he died while he was playing football."
一位男子去一家保险公司给自己投人寿保险。保险公司经理问他，他父母去世时他们是多大岁数。

英语趣味幽默小故事：大街上的阴凉处
It was a very hot day in the middle of summer, and there no trees along the street.
Mr Smith closed his shop at half past five, went out into the street and walked to the bus. He was very fat. The sun shone straight down the street and in a few minutes Mr Smith felt very hot.
A small boy came out of another shop in the street, and went after Mr Smith. He stayed very near him all the time. And he kicked Mr Smith's shoes a few times. Mr Smith looked at him angrily each time.
After the fourth time. Mr smith stopped, turned and said to the small boy, "What are you doing here? Stop going after me like that! You're going to hurt my feet."
"I'm sorry, but don't stop me, please!" the small boy said. "It is very hot today, and there isn't any shade anywhere else in the street!"
这是夏季一个非常炎热的一天，大街两边没有一棵树。
史密斯先生下午五点半就将商店关闭，来到大街上，向公共汽车走去。史密斯很胖，太阳火辣辣地照在大街上，不一会儿他就感到太热了。
