这5个英语俚语，细思极恐！

今天分享5个细思极恐的英语俚语，这些俚语大多用了比喻，不然看到skeleton在柜子里，那也太可怕啦。

1. skeleton in the/your closet

这个短语形容an embarrassing secret，翻译为“丑事，隐情”，英式口语里用skeleton in the/your cupboard。你可以说：

Most families have one or two skeletons in the closet.

大多数家庭都有一两件家丑。

要注意的是be in the closet指的是还没出柜的情况哦，是秘密，但不是丑事。

2. be (as) dead as a/the dodo

dodo可以形容蠢人，这个短语形容失势；过时；不再走红：

Letter-writing is as dead as the dodo.

写信完全过时了。

补充一个has-been，这是口语里的常用词，牛津词典是这么解释的：a person who in the past（在过去） was famous, important, admired, or good at something, but is no longer（不再） any of these。所以，has-been也就翻译成“过气的名人，曾经红极一时的人物”。例句：

That performer is a has-been.

那位演员曾经红过一阵子。

3. kick the bucket

用来替换“die”，就是“腿一蹬翘辫子”。另外，Bucket list 可以理解为一个人在死之前想要做的所有事情的清单，有部电影就叫这个名字，翻译为《遗愿清单》：

4. graveyard shift

graveyard是“墓地”，这不是在墓地上班哈，这个短语通常指在工厂里上的那种“大夜班，凌晨班”：

5. saved by the bell

救命钟？这形容的是某种困难局面突然结束时所说的措辞，否则你就得做或说你不想做或说的事。
