一.英语学习的第一层次
把英语看作一个语言知识体系(knowledge)来加以研读、理解和记忆，从而准确掌握大量关于英语语言的知识，这是英语学习的第一层次，也是英语学习的最低层次，是其他层次的基础。在这个层次上，英语被分解为语音、词汇、语法、语篇四大知识体系。语言学家通过深入研究，对英语这四方面进行认真、细致地描述，从而总结出一条又一条语言规则。英语学习的第一层次就是通过大脑的认知活动和复用练习，理解和记忆这些语言知识和规则。
(1)语音知识:包括音素的发音、音标、音的组合、音在组合过程中发生的各种变体(如同化、浊化、连读、失去爆破等)，音和字母(字母组合)的关系，基本语调、语调的表义功能、停顿、节奏、韵律等知识。
(2)词汇知识:包括拼写、发音、词性、词义(本义、引申、转义等)、搭配(语义搭配和形式搭配)、文体色彩(如书面语、口语、俚语、专业用语、古语、描述、评价等)知识。
(3)语法知识:包括词法和句法两大部分。词法知识包括词的分类和构词法。词的分类重点抓住名词和动词的性质特征和语法功能。名词讲究数、性、格，相关知识有限定词、代词、形容词和介词;动词讲究时、体、态、气、不定式、现在分词、过去分词，相关知识有助动词、及物、不及物、副词等概念。句法知识包括句子类型、句子成分、主句、从句、引语、一致、倒装、省略等知识。
(4)语篇知识:它包括篇章结构、前后照应、连贯与衔接、修辞手段、铺陈与突显以及文体等知识
