比如在常用词学习策略方面， 为与中学英语接轨，不断扩大词汇量是必要的。教师可引导学生寻找规律。(1)从语音的角度进行联想。英语单词中有很多单词，如cat，fat，hat，除了开头的字母不一样之外，其余的字母和读音均相同。很容易记住这一系列词，看到一个就能联想到多个，它们都一起活跃起来。这有利于培养发散性思维。(2)利用对比的方法来帮助识记。如反义词big~small，black-white，here—there，又如音形比较any和many，too和to，write和white等等，这些方法可以有效地帮助学生掌握单词。(3)根据单词的含义进行分类。比如由fruit就联想到各种水果的名字、形状、颜色等词汇。把水果apple，pear，peach，banana，melon等归成一类帮助记忆。 (4)运用充分的联想， 由一个词联想到相关的词汇，构成词汇树或词汇串。比如，由take想到短语take off ，take up，take in等主干，take off还有“起飞、脱掉、减(肥)”等意思，构成“树枝”。
3.形象思维能力或“视觉表象记忆法” 的培养。
